Keywords in Dermatology and Venereology
The physician specialty of "dermato-venereology" (DV) embraces dermatology (skin health) and venereology* (male and female sexual health and HIV medicine). Venereology is also called genitourinary medicine (sexual health and HIV medicine). The reasons behind the combination are that a number of patients with sexually transmitted infections may first present or be referred to the dermatologist and a number of patients with skin conditions may first present or be referred to the venereologist. In the UK, surgical andrology (surgical aspects of male health) is part of the surgical specialty of urology (uro-andrology), and genitourinary medicine is separate from dermatology.
This blog is my professional profile where I present articles studded with keywords on the field of dermato-venereology. Keywords tell you about the main ideas of a topic and they are meant for rapid reference. They appear in red on this blog. Apart from the main works of reference list on my blog, other references appear as asterisks in the topic text. The text is supplemented with photos and/or links (light blue but turn into orange after clicking) to relevant photos and other material on free access websites such as the DermNet New Zealand*.
I declare any conflicts of interest whenever appropriate and I make sure that my conduct justifies the patients' trust in me and the public's trust in the profession. Patient's/carer's prior consent is always ascertained whenever relevant.
